India-Bound Hyundai Ioniq 9 7-Seater eSUV Debuts With 620 Km Range

Hyundai Ioniq 9 supports 350 kW charging, enabling a 10 to 80 per cent charge in just 24 minutes; performance is derived from a 110.3 kWh battery pack

Hyundai has unveiled the Ioniq 9, its first three-row, all-electric SUV at the Goldstein House in Los Angeles. The Ioniq 9 boasts a roomy interior crafted for comfort and flexibility. Its flat floor accommodates up to seven passengers with seats reclining fully and a unique second-row swivelling function, allowing occupants to face each other when stationary.

Adding to its functionality is the console which slides to improve accessibility and offers significant storage space. Sustainability is integral to the design with materials like recycled PET fabric and bio-based paints used throughout the cabin. Performance is derived from a 110.3 kWh high-capacity battery, delivering a WLTP-estimated range of 620 km.

Built on Hyundai’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the Ioniq 9 supports 350 kW charging, enabling a 10 to 80 per cent charge in just 24 minutes. Advanced aerodynamics such as a dual-motion active air flap and a 3D-shaped underbody cover optimise energy efficiency, resulting in an impressively low drag coefficient of 0.259 Cd.

The premium electric SUV’s exterior comes with Hyundai’s new “Aerosthetic” design philosophy, incorporating sleek curves, streamlined surfaces, and Parametric Pixel LED lighting. Its grand proportions, highlighted by a 3,130 mm wheelbase, establish a bold presence while the absence of a traditional roof antenna emphasises a minimalist aesthetic.

Technological advancements elevate the Ioniq 9’s overall characteristics as well. A Level 2+ Advanced Driver Assistance System integrates multiple radars, sensors and a 360-degree camera for high-level safety. Inside, a panoramic curved display houses a 12-inch cluster and 12-inch monitor while a Bose audio system can be had as an option.

AI voice recognition and Hyundai’s Features on Demand (FoD) allow for further personalisation, offering digital upgrades like dynamic lighting and content streaming. The Hyundai Ioniq 9 will hit the Korean and United States markets in the first half of 2025 with a European and global rollout to follow. We can expect it to arrive in India in the near future considering the popularity of the Ioniq 6 and its alternative, the Kia EV9, which is already on sale locally.
